Upward and ever onward is a main concept of every living Orthodox
Christian on the earth. This idea can be visioned in the very first
Ukrainian settlers, that settled here in Slickville in the 1900's.
Many of the first settlers, that embarked on that long journey from
their motherland of Ukraine, were aspired in this concept. When they
landed here the first idea was to find jobs in order to have food
for their bodies and other earthly riches. However, this was not
enough. Each and everyone of them seem to harbor an uneasiness. The
uneasiness was the lack of God. These children of God with this uneasiness
in mind began to think about the food for their soul. Thus, the first
members of the Ukrainian Church in Slickville began to think in terms
of God. The Holy Ghost Ukrainian Church was built in 1924, with many
hardships and troubles encountered. Ever since the Church has been
fullfilling their spiritual needs. There could be more said, but
the essence is; that the CHURCH WAS BUILT, the CHURCH HAS LIVED,
and the CHURCH WILL LIVE. If we all live in and with the CHURCH,
then we truly live with loving God in His House.
